After our fabulous
stay in New Hampshire, we went to urban Boston for a couple of days. I had a couple of opportunities to sketch: the plants in my sister-in-law's massage studio while she entertained Eamonn, and a house in Arlington. We had been walking around all day and ended up walking a mile or two on the Minuteman Trail and I was so tired that as soon as we got to our favorite park in Arlington I sat down and started drawing a house across the street. Eamonn found a tall tree stump to climb into and enjoy himself.
It's been a while, but today Eamonn and I sat down and did some painting together. He did five paintings in the time it took me to do this. Even then, I went back and added to it after he went to bed. We went to a home-made art show at a friend's last weekend and bought a little portrait he did, so I guess I am inspired by that. Also, have been looking at a Maira Kalman book with lots of funny portraits. Very dramatic people she painted from photographs.
